★Lesson 110：　Momiji Hunting　（紅葉狩り） 

秋です、山へ紅葉を楽しみにいきませんか？

父： Are you ready?　準備できた？
子： Anytime you’re ready.　いつでもいいよ
父： Well, let’s go to “momiji gari”!　紅葉狩りに行こう
子： Are we going to hunt some animals?　動物を狩るの？
Does “momiji” look like a horse?　紅葉って馬に似てるの？
母： We’re going to the mountains to enjoy the autumn leaves.
  山に紅葉を見に行くのよ
子： But father just said that we’re going to hunt momiji.
  パパが紅葉を「狩る」って云ったよ
母： You know what “momiji” is, don’t you?　紅葉が何か知ってるよね
子： Sure, it’s a maple.　うん、カエデだよ
母： That’s right.　そうね
  “Hunt” means to chase animals and birds in order to catch them.
子： 動物や鳥を捕まえる為に追いかける事を「狩る」というのよ
子： But maple leaves are not animals. でもカエデは動物じゃないよ
  Why do you say to hunt maple leaves?　どうして葉っぱを狩るっていうの？
母： Good question.　いい質問ね
  We used to use the word “kari” only when you “hunt”.　
  昔は動物を「狩る」時しか「狩る」と云わなかったの
  But now, we use the word when you see and enjoy something.
  でも今は何かを見て楽しむ時にも使うのよ
  Also, we use “kari” when we pick some fruits.
  果物を摘む時も「狩る」というのよ
子： I know!　知ってる！
  “Budo gari” or “nashi gari”!　「ぶどう狩り」とか「なし狩り」！
父： Mmm … that’s sounds nice.　う～ん、ソレいいな
  Let’s forget about “momiji gari”.　紅葉狩りの事は忘れよう
  I’ve changed our plan.　計画変更だ
  We’re going “grape picking”.　ぶどう狩りに行くよ
  We can enjoy the autumn leaves there.　そこで紅葉狩りしよう
